Outlook Place - University of Queensland

The Outlook Place development aims to provide flexible spaces that can accommodate teaching and research facilities and office space within the University of Queensland. Based on the concept of a topological surface the design attempts to link learning, research and teaching spaces through a continuous link of flexible program. The modular ceramic façade has been designed to provide a memory of the UQ staff-house building that currently exists on the site. The interlocked ceramic screening provides both shading and the opportunity of a solar chimney as a method of passive ventilation in Brisbane's predominately warm climate.

IUIH Health Care Centre - Dakabin

This proposition offers an alternative response to conformity. A grid aligned to the topography of the site is broken by the landscape mimicking the urban grids vulnerability to the impenetrable elements of nature. The design aims complement what already exists on the site and become imbedded in the surrounding landscape. A brick base attempts to ground the building in the landscape and exposed timber framing provides a connection to the eucalypt forest which once stood in the Dakabin region. A sawtooth roof and central courtyards provide natural light to the double loaded corridors of the clinic. Easy access to the courtyards and landscape beyond provide a connection to country and the possibility for outdoor consultation.

Sunnybank Duplex & Urban Proposition

This urban proposition aims to take the bustling and intimate spaces of Sunnybank’s Market Square and combine them with a residential development that encourages densification through the provision of 18 duplexes. Combined with a public commons, productive community gardens and a retail precinct, the development provides a space for the local community to gather and enhance the suburb’s already rich culture. The retail precinct mimics the alley ways of market square through two parallel shopping strips. The proposed duplexes echo the street-scape beyond with a brick ground floor. The floors above draw on Brisbane’s history of traditional timber housing. The articulated structure gives opportunity for changes in cladding material and layering. The use of opaque polycarbonate provides both light and privacy. A central stairwell and void allow for further natural light penetration into the duplexes slender plan.

Nocturnal House - Animal Exhibit

Taking the form of a monolithic nest this project is a response to Robert Venturi and Denise Scott-Brown's "Duck" typology. Designed to house the nocturnal Planigale, the nest-like space offers a unique experience for the occupant to see the marsupial mouse in an environment where it is naturally active. The circulation of its centric program allows the visitor to adjust to their senses to the dark enclosure along their journey. The experience culminates in the nest's center within the inner dome giving the sense of a protected and intimate experience. Distribution of the spaces about its oval plan optimises the sensory experience of the visitor and provides adequate facilities for that animal and its carer.

FutureLab Facade

This contemporary take on the decorated surface revitalises the proposed FutureLab, a conservation research facility at Dreamworld Corroboree. Created from a system of varying 'benzene' aperture modules the facade's overall scheme takes on an organic image. This method of articulation attempts to communicate the underlying organic chemistry of nature by creating an organic image with scientific geometry. The facade's colours were chosen to symbolise the destruction of earth's habitat when seen from space.
